The Iron Man theme for Samsung’s Galaxy S6 Edge created quite a stir in China when it was released there a few weeks ago, and a similar scenario was seen in Korea where online stores bogged down because of too much traffic from prospective buyers on a wild race to get hold of this prized Galaxy S6 Edge edition.
As expected, price tags on this offering were way over the roof while the number of units made available was very limited. In Korea, for instance, only 1,000 went up for sale.
JD.com, a major online retailer in China, had the Iron Man-themed Galaxy S6 Edge auctioned off 2 days ago, with the bid being won by someone with way too much money in life that he needed to spend some to give his cash stash a bit of breathing space, and that’s to the tune of 568,788 yuan or $91,635. Some say you could buy Iron Man himself with that money, I’m not sure.
Word got out later that the particular device auctioned off by JD.com had a serial number of “66” – a symbol of double good luck for the Chinese. That may very well explain it to many. But I’m still picking my jaw up off the floor.
