BlackBerry Priv and DTEK50 receive update fixing all QuadRooter vulnerabilities

Samuel Enife - 1:43 AM

Today BlackBerry has proudly announced that it's the first Android device maker to have patched all of the QuadRooter vulnerabilities. Furthermore, the company is sending out the patches to both of its Android smartphones - the Priv and the DTEK50. The update should roll out over-the-air in the next few days to all handsets out there. Units purchased straight from BlackBerry will get it first, then followed by those devices sold through carriers.
The QuadRooter exploits have been uncovered earlier this month and they affect Android devices with Qualcomm chipsets. The chip maker created the necessary patches already, and three of the vulnerabilities have been fixed in Google's August security update. However, the last one is only scheduled to arrive with Google's September security patch.
BlackBerry however couldn't wait, which makes sense considering that the Canadian company likes calling the DTEK50 "the world's most secure Android phone". Clearly it's set out to prove that's at least plausible, by showing a security-focused approach in releasing this update now.
