The first Galaxy S8 Active photos leaked on Monday. Now, there is even more info about the rugged Samsung smartphone after most of the specs were revealed on Chinese social network Weibo.
The Galaxy S8 Active will have a 5.8” Super AMOLED screen with 2960x1440 pixel resolution. That matches the specs of the Galaxy S8 panel, but there won't be curved edges this time around. Similarities continue with Gorilla Glass 5 on the front and the Snapdragon 835 chipset.
The big difference is battery capacity - the Galaxy S8 Active will offer a huge 4,000 juice pack, compared to the 3,000mAh battery of the Galaxy S8.
The memory combo is 4 GB RAM + 64 GB storage with microSD slot for up to 256 GB more. The cameras are the same as the other two phones from the S8 family - 12 MP on the back, 8 MP on the front, both of them with f/1.7 aperture.
Since the Galaxy S8 Active comes with a polycarbonate back and metal rims it will retain the support for wireless charging. It's key advantage over the its far prettier Galaxy S8 siblings is the MIL-STD-810G-certified shock resistance, which should give clumsier users a piece of mind.
As a downside the added ruggedness and larger battery have significantly boosted the weight to 208g - that's over 50g more than the vanilla Galaxy S8. Thickness has also increased to 9.9mm.
