vivo has been teasing the upcoming iQOO Pro 5Gfor a while now, ahead of the official announcement that's scheduled to take place on August 22. We've also already seen it pass TENAA certification, so we pretty much know all there is to know about it right now - except for one thing. The price.
So far 5G devices have been significantly more expensive than 4G flagships, but perhaps the iQOO Pro 5G will be the first model to buck this trend. According to a new rumor from China, the phone will be the cheapest ever 5G handset when it launches.
The Weibo post saying that has been reblogged by iQOO VP Feng Yufei, lending an air of credence to it therefore. An exact price hasn't been mentioned, mind you, but this is still an exciting prospect. One of the key hurdles in 5G adoption (aside from having network support) will definitely be the price of 5G smartphones. So the cheaper they get, the easier it will be to convince people to buy them.
And the vivo iQOO Pro 5G, if it will indeed be cheaper than any other 5G phone before it, has the potential to do just that, at least in the company's home market of China - which is where the rumor in question applies for. If vivo will choose to launch this device in other countries with 5G networks, then it remains to be seen how it will price it there.
The phone is expected to come with a 6.41-inch 1080x2340 AMOLED touchscreen with a waterdrop notch, the Snapdragon 855+ chipset, up to 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage, a 48 MP + 13 MP + 12 MP triple rear camera setup, a 12 MP selfie snapper, and a 4,410 mAh battery with 44W fast charging. It will run Android 9 Pie underneath vivo's Funtouch 9.
