Oppo is one of the few new-generation Chinese tech players that has made bold marks outside of their local market in recent times. The Oppo R5 for example gathered a lot of media attention when it broke cover as the world’s thinnest smartphone in October last year.
Now, the company is prepping another smartphone from the R family. The latest gossip from China is that the Oppo R might be the company’s next smartphone and there were visuals to back up the claim.

According reports by Chinese media, the Oppo R will feature a 5-inch 1080p touchscreen and the smartphone’s design, specifically, the metal frame covering the sides, makes it look identical to the Oppo R1C which in turn features similar specifications. There’s also a mention of LTE connectivity on board.
Other physical properties of the R includes a 13-megapixel rear camera and 5MP front-facing selfie shooter. Under the hood, the handset is powered by a 64-bit Snapdragon 615 chipset with an octa-core CPU setup (combination two sets of four Cortex-A53 cores running at 1GHz and 1.5GHz respectively), 2GB of RAM and expandable memory.
There’s no info on when the smartphone will hit the shelves but we’ll always be on the lookout for any updates about the product and information on Oppo devices generally.
