Archos intros Diamond 2 Plus with 4GB of RAM, 6-inch QHD Diamond 2 Note

Archos is doing its best to announce new mobile devices before Samsung and LG totally steal the show this Sunday. So, after having already outed some new Oxygen tablets and the 50d Oxygen handset, today the French company has unveiled a pair of new smartphones, the Diamond 2 Plus and the Diamond 2 Note. These could in fact be considered Archos' premier offerings from this point on, given their specs.
The Diamond 2 Plus comes with a 5.5-inch 1080p touchscreen, a 20 MP rear camera with dual-LED flash, an 8 MP selfie shooter, MediaTek's MT6755 Helio P10 SoC running things (with an octa-core CPU clocked at up to 2 GHz and the Mali-T860MP2 GPU clocked at 700MHz), 4GB of RAM, 64GB of storage, LTE Cat.6 support, a fingerprint sensor on the back, a USB Type-C port, and a 3,000 mAh battery.


It runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow. Its dimensions are 148.3 x 73.8 x 8.3 mm, and it weighs 130g. The Archos Diamond 2 Plus will become available in May for $229, €249, or £199. That's rather impressive for a phone with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage.
Moving on, the Archos Diamond 2 Note is a 6-inch "borderless" phablet coming with QHD resolution, a 16 MP rear camera with phase detection autofocus and dual-LED flash, an 8 MP selfie snapper, the MediaTek MT6795 Helio X10 SoC at the helm (with a 2 GHz octa-core CPU and PowerVR G6200 GPU), 3GB of RAM, 32GB of storage, LTE Cat.4 support, and a 3,610 mAh battery.


It too runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow. Its dimensions are 158.35 x 82.7 x 8.7 mm, and it weighs 150g. It will also be out in May, and will be priced at $279, €299, or £249, depending on where you are.

GranitePhone is a security-obsessed phone by Sikur/Archos

After a seven-month period following its MWC announcement, the GranitePhone is now available for purchase. The phone, conceived by IT security specialists from Sikur, and made by Archos, can now be ordered from its dedicated website for the hefty sum of $849.
The hardware you get for that is not unlike the existing Archos 50 Diamond. There's the 5-inch FullHD display, Snapdragon 615 chipset paired with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of built-in storage. The camera combo is the same 16MP/8MP affair, and even battery capacity is identical at 2,700mAh.

Sikur GranitePhone

The big change is the OS, where instead of Android 4.4.4 KitKat, you get Sikur's home-brewed Granite OS. The company promises "multiple levels of protection" including encrypted cloud storage, encrypted calls, encrypted messages, encrypted everything. The phone has been chosen by government and defense agencies, Archos informs us, as well as privacy-concerned individuals.

Archos announces affordable 5.5-inch Diamond Plus

Right ahead of IFA, Archos has announced yet another smartphone. This is Diamond-branded like the Diamond S we told you about not long ago. Yet in this case we're looking at a device that's more into phablet territory, in fact bridging the gap between the 5-inch Diamond S and the Diamond Tab.

The Archos Diamond Plus comes with a 5.5-inch 1080p touchscreen, a 16 MP rear camera with LED flash, an 8 MP selfie snapper, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of expandable storage, 4G LTE support, dual-SIM functionality, and a 2,800 mAh battery with fast charging.

At the helm we find MediaTek's MT6753 64-bit SoC with a 1.5 GHz octa-core Cortex-A53 CPU and Mali-T720MP3 GPU. The phone runs Android 5.1 Lollipop. Its dimensions are 152.6 x 76.4 x 8.4 mm, and it weighs 178g.

It will become available in Europe in November, SIM-free and unlocked, for a recommended retail price of £179.99.

Archos unveils three new smartphones, one runs Windows 10

French smartphone maker Archos loves to flood the market with multiple devices at once, and it's done it yet again. Today it's unveiled no less than three new handsets, though, in fairness, two of them are actually identical in terms of hardware.

What sets the Archos 50 Cesium and the Archos 50e Helium apart, then, is the software. Namely the fact that the former will run Windows 10 Mobile when it launches, while the latter sticks with Android.

So the Archos 50 Cesium gets to be one of the first Windows 10-running smartphones ever to be made official. It comes with a 5-inch 720p touchscreen, an 8 MP rear camera with LED flash, a 2 MP front snapper, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of expandable storage, and a 2,100 mAh battery.

It's powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 210 chipset, boasting a 1.1 GHz quad-core Cortex-A7 CPU and Adreno 304 GPU. Its dimensions are 147 x 72.5 x 8.5 mm. It has dual-SIM functionality and 4G LTE support.

The Archos 50e Helium will ship running Android 5.1 Lollipop, but is otherwise identical to the 50 Cesium. Both of these phones will cost £99 unlocked and SIM-free, and they'll be out in November.

The Archos Diamond S, on the other hand, features a 5-inch 720p touchscreen with Gorilla Glass 3, a 16 MP rear camera with LED flash, an 8 MP selfie shooter, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of expandable storage, MediaTek's MT6753 SoC with a 1.5 GHz octa-core CPU, and a 2,300 mAh battery.

Here too we find dual-SIM functionality built-in along with 4G LTE support. The Diamond S runs Android 5.1 Lollipop. Its dimensions are 152.6 x 76.4 x 8.4 mm, and it weighs 118g.

It will be priced at £159.99 in the UK when it becomes available in November. All three smartphones will be showcased by Archos at its booth at the IFA trade show in Berlin at the beginning of September.

Archos' latest budget smartphones to go on sale in UK next month

The Archos 50 Helium Plus and 55 Helium Plus, which weny official last week, will be available for purchase in the UK in July. While the former will carry a price tag of £119 ($185), the latter will set you back £139 ($216).

Specs-wise, both devices are powered by a 64-bit MediaTek MT6735P chipset with 1GHz quad-core Cortex-A53 CPU. They come with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of expandable storage, and run Android 5.1 Lollipop. In terms of camera, both feature a 13MP rear unit with LED flash and a 5MP front shooter.

While the 50 Helium Plus sports a 5” 720p IPS display with 293ppi, the larger sibling comes with a 5.5” 720p IPS display with 267ppi. They pack in a 2,000mAh and 2,400mAh batteries, respectively.
