LG teases USB-C monitors and Google Cast soundbars ahead of CES

LG is already teasing its upcoming product announcements for CES 2016 in January. We're in for a bunch of 4K monitors with USB Type-C ports as well as a trio of sound bars equipped with Bluetooth and Google Cast compatibility.
While details aren't as inclusive as we'd like, LG has spilled out that it will announce a 27" and 32" 4K monitors with USB Type-C ports. Joining them will be three new ultrawide, 21:9 aspect ratio monitors of QHD resolutions, two of which flat and one with a curved display. All of the latter three will have ThunderBolt 2 connections.
As for the audio tech, expect three new sound bars with Bluetooth and Google Cast compatibility. The large red speakers you see below are X-Boom audio systems, which will also make their debut at CES 2016.
Expect more specs and pricing information as CES 2016 draws near.

Samsung's Penvatars: spicing up the S-Pen

If the only interaction you’ve had with a stylus on a smartphone is through a generic capacitive wand, you don’t know what you’re missing when it comes to a device with dedicated stylus digitizer hardware. That’s the type of setup Samsung uses in its Galaxy Note series, allowing these phablets and tablets to track their S Pen styluses with incredible precision, support button input on the pens themselves, and recognize varying levels of pressure. In recent models, Note devices have been able to detect input when you’re not even directly touching the screen, allowing the software to perform special tasks as part of what Samsung calls Air View functionality. At CES this year, the manufacturer shared news of a cute little tweak coming to its Note lineup, letting you customize what you see when hovering over the screen.

Traditionally, Samsung models have displayed a little blue circle to let you know they’re detecting the presence of the S Pen (or even your finger) being held over the screen. As you move the stylus around, the circle follows your movements: simple, direct… and kind of boring. But soon you’ll be able to give that plain circle a bit more flavor, as Samsung reveals coming support for what it calls Penvatars.
With the Penvatar software present, users will be able to select from a gallery of icons to assign in place of that blue circle. They’re not just all circles, either, letting you swap that out for a finer-tipped pointer icon. And because Samsung’s got a big tie-in promo deal with the upcoming Marvel Avengers film, the icons you’ll find will include a lot of licensed character art.
There’s no word yet on when Penvatars will be available, whether or not they’ll support all Note models with Air View (we’ve heard claims that this could be Note 4 and Edge-only, but nothing formal from Samsung), nor what, if anything extra, the app might cost. We know, it’s all ultimately of little consequence, but it’s still a neat tweak to an already-useful feature.

Lenovo A6000 mid-range smartphone showcased at CES

The 2015 CES ends today, and just before it does, here’s Chinese PC giant Lenovo with yet another smartphone. The phone producer kicked off its keynote at the CES with the launch of a tablet and two new android phones on the first day of the event.

The Lenovo A6000 is a budget device with a 5-inch HD IPS display and a launch price of $169. Lenovo hasn’t listed the countries where the smartphone is going to be available, however, its home country of China will likely get the device just as much as most other Lenovo products.

Powering the smartphone is Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 410 chipset (MSM8916 variant), a Adreno 306 graphics processor and 1.2GHz quad-core Cortex-A53 CPU. The A6000 uses Android 4.4 KitKat software with Lenovo’s home-baked flavor Vibe UI 2.0 skin.

Alleged picture of Xiaomi Mi5 posted on Weibo

January 2015 is almost upon us (by the grace of God), and you know what that means to the tech community? In a matter of few days the 2015 CES will kick off in Las Vegas, USA, and we’ll see the likes of Xiaomi Mi5 (reportedly pictured below) break cover.

A Weibo user who claims to have knowledge of the matter posted an alleged picture of the upcoming Mi5. Though no specs were accompanying the picture, we heard that Xiaomi is going to use a 5.5″ QHD screen for this one as a Snapdragon 805 CPU and 3GB of RAM is also likely.
Xiaomi are much known for copying Apple with most of their products, however, that has been looked over (at least legally) due to little or no existent of patent laws in China where the tech company does most of its business.
Coming to the States with a product which will possibly be sold in the country, requires the Chinese phone maker to play its cards well to avoid long patent suits which awaits anyone who copies Apple products.
