ZTE nubia N3 gets official with 5,000 mAh battery, 5.99" 18:9 display, Snapdragon 625

Samuel Enife - 1:28 AM
ZTE's sub-brand nubia has unveiled a new smartphone today in China. The nubia N3 comes with a 5.99" IPS 2,160x1,080 18:9 touchscreen, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 chipset at the helm, and a huge 5,000 mAh battery to ensure you won't need to charge it every night. Speaking of that, it supports 18W fast charging.
The handset has 4GB of RAM, 64GB of internal storage, and a microSD card slot. It runs Android 7.1 Nougat underneath nubia's custom UI. On the back there are two cameras, but their resolutions and specs are unknown at the moment. For selfies you get a 16 MP shooter.
The nubia N3 will go on sale in China on March 24. It will be offered in Obsidian Black, Space Gold, and Nebula Red. Pricing hasn't been revealed yet. It's the ZTE sub-brand's first mid-ranger to come with a tall screen aspect ratio, thus adhering to one of the latest trends. Amazingly it somehow managed to escape the temptation of having a notch.

Moto G6 Play (S430) and ZTE Blade V9 (S450) go through Geekbench

Samuel Enife - 1:48 AM
The Moto G6 Play specs leaked a while back and they point to a Snapdragon 430 chipset. Not that we’re unfamiliar with its performance, but now is a good chance to compare it to the Snapdragon 450.
Geekbench results: Moto G6 Play Geekbench results: ZTE Blade V9
Geekbench results: Moto G6 Play • ZTE Blade V9
The 450 is to be found in the upcoming ZTE Blade V9 – a phone with an 18:9 screen, just like the Motorola. Both of these phones ran the Geekbench 4.2 sprint and here are the results (the two phones have different screen resolutions, but this benchmark tests only the CPU).

GeekBench 4.2 (single-core)

Higher is better
  • ZTE Blade V9772
  • Motorola Moto G6 Play472

GeekBench 4.2 (multi-core)

Higher is better
  • ZTE Blade V93931
  • Motorola Moto G6 Play1801
Both phones have octa-core Cortex-A53 processors, though the clockspeed goes in favor of the ZTE and its Snapdragon 450 – it’s 1.4GHz vs. 1.8GHz. The RAM amount is 3GB on both phones and they run Android Oreo (though the Blade V9 was at 8.1 while the Moto G6 Play was at 8.0).
The results are quite impressive – while only having 30% faster clock speed, the Snapdragon 450 processor posts nearly double the single- and multi-core results. Keep in mind that the GPU should do have about 2x the speed too.

A proposed bill could essentially ban Huawei and ZTE telecommunication devices and services in the US

Samuel Enife - 2:08 AM

If you've been keeping up with Huawei's recent efforts to expand on the US market, you likely heard of the major deal collapse between the Chinese OEM and AT&T. In the short term, this is undoubtedly disappointing for anybody anticipating to see the new Mate 10 Pro and future Huawei devices on carrier contract deals. However, the issue and its potential implications go way beyond that.

On Thursday, when we officially heard about the cancelled deal, a few US legal concerns were cited as an explanation. As it turns out, there was an entire bill, titled H. R. 4747: "Defending U.S. Government Communications Act", which originated on January 9, seeking to ban all US agencies and branches of the government from using carriers and service providers that use hardware or any platforms courtesy of Huawei and ZTE. To be even more specific, the bill, which has already been proposed in the US Congress is looking to blacklist entities that use any of the following:
  • Telecommunications equipment produced by Huawei Technologies Company or ZTE Corporation (or any subsidiary or affiliate of such entities).
  • Telecommunications services provided by such entities or using such equipment.
  • Telecommunications equipment or services produced or provided by an entity that the head of the relevant agency reasonably believes to be an entity owned or controlled by, or otherwise connected to, the government of a covered foreign country.
The bill was sponsored by Texas-based Republican House member Michael Conaway - a person probably familiar to many for heading the ongoing investigation into Russia's alleged interference in the US election.

But why is this important? It's not like Huawei or ZTE's smartphone sales comprise mostly of work phones for US officials. Be that as it may, both companies are huge players in the enterprise telecommunications sector. It is more than likely that all major carriers in the US rely, at least to some extent, on hardware and services provided by the pair. This means that such a major unfavourable attitude towards them on a government level will definitely have a negative effect of all other dealings. Case and point, the AT&T negotiations, cancelled in their final stages.
Still, even if we are sad to see the Huawei Mate 10 Pro narrowly miss the next AT&T deals brochure, it is hard to confidently take sides on the matter. The newly proposed bill is not a fluke and builds on past precedents, like a 2013 ban on ZTE selling products to the US government, a further proposal to rest the Pentagon form buying equipment from Chinese or Russian telecommunications companies, as well as a US China Commission that fount Huawei, ZTE and others are: "directly subject to direction by the Chinese Communist Party…" and "shared with the Chinese state intimate and extensive knowledge of foreign telecommunications systems it is involved with.".
All things considered, it seems pretty clear that for the time being, US carriers are likely to shy away from the two Chinese tech giants and any smartphone distribution deals. As for the bigger picture, it's way too early to say. To even make it to a vote, the newly proposed bill will have to be approved by the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform. Only after that can it be passed by both houses of Congress and, if approved, on the President for a final sign-off.

Last, but not least, to sprinkle in even more drama in the mix, the US Commerce Department is currently investigating Huawei's dealings in Syria, Cuba, Iran and Sudan. While ZTE was already fined over $1 billion last year after violating U.S.-Iran sanctions by shipping product from the U.S. to Iran and then lying about it in front of federal investigators.

ZTE to come up with more foldable smartphones

Samuel Enife - 2:09 AM

ZTE launched Axon M last year, which was technically a foldable smartphone, but not the kind we all were dreaming of. Unsurprisingly, it didn't take the market by storm. However, the company says it's committed to the idea, and will expand its foldable phone lineup.

ZTE's vice president of marketing Jeff Yee said this during an interview at the recently concluded CES. The executive added that the Axon M received a positive feedback from those who purchased it, but also acknowledged there's a lot of room for improvement.
"We’ll eventually get to something that’s truly bendable," Yee said. "There’s a lot of others things that we might be adding over time." To see the complete interview, head to the Source link below.

ZTE announces the Nubia Z17 Lite with a Snapdragon 653 chipset

Samuel Enife - 1:42 AM
It wasn't long ago that ZTE launched the Nubia Z17 with impressive features like QuickCharge 4.0, 8 GB RAM and top-notch Snapdragon 835. Now the manufacturer decided it should launch a phone with the same body but without all the cool features under the name Nubia Z17 Lite.
ZTE announces the Nubia Z17 Lite with a Snapdragon 653 chipsetThe nubia Z17 Lite arrives in the same body as the nubia Z17
The chipset of the Nubia Z17 Lite is Snapdragon 653, paired with octa-core CPU and Adreno 510 GPU. The stripped phone has only 6 GB RAM + 64 GB storage. Since the body is the same as the Nubia Z17 with the 5.5” edge-to-edge display, a microSD slot is nonexistent.
The main camera was also overhauled. Instead of 12 MP + 23 MP sensors, there are two 13 MP sensors. One of them in RGB with a f/2.2 aperture, while the other is monochrome. Both cameras have IMX258 sensor by Sony. At least ZTE kept the 16 MP camera with f/2.0 aperture and 80-degree wide-angle lens.
The battery is 3,200 mAh but it can be charged only through QuickCharge 3.0. There is a fingerprint scanner on the back for all the users taking care of their private information.
The Nubia Z17 Lite will be available after September 6 with a CNY2,499 price tag which equals $379.

ZTE Blade Spark is a $99 smartphone with a fingerprint scanner

Samuel Enife - 1:21 AM
ZTE has launched a new device on AT&T’s prepaid segment called the ZTE Blade Spark. The Blade Spark marks the second Blade-branded device to hit the United States (the first was the ZTE Blade V8 Pro). Equipped with a Snapdragon 425 CPU and 2GB of RAM, the Blade Spark is an entry-level offering at $99 which also packs biometric security in the form of a fingerprint scanner.
While this smartphone won’t get any awards for its performance, it has the power and efficiency to get most of what you need to get done: calls, messages, social media, and casual games. There’s even a selfie shortcut that fires up the 5MP front-facing camera. The main camera is 13MP.
You’ll also be getting Android Nougat 7.1.1, which is nice, considering that a bunch of flagship devices are still proudly running 7.0.X. A convenient software feature is the ability to map up to five fingerprints to unlock and open any app you choose.
The ZTE Blade Spark will is available from AT&T’s website today and in a select number of stores for the aforementioned price of $99.

ZTE announces the Blade V7 Plus

Samuel Enife - 1:04 AM
ZTE launched the Blade V7 and Blade V7 Lite back at MWC in early 2016. Then, 12 months later, the Blade V8 series started appearing. Somewhat strangely then, now the company announced the Blade V7 Plus. The “Plus” in the name indicates new features like a fingerprint scanner on the back and a slightly larger 2,540 mAh power cell.
The phone comes with the outdated chipset MT6753 that was already uninspiring back in 2016 let alone this year. ZTE kept the 5.2” screen size and the 2 GB/16 GB memory combo.
The biggest disappointment comes from the OS - Blade V7 Plus comes with Android Marshmallow 6.0.
The new fingerprint scanner is positioned on the back, below the 13 MP camera that goes along with an LED flash.
The phone will be sold in either Platinum Grey or Ion Gold and had already hit the shelves in Russia and Australia.

ZTE Nubia 17 leaks in renders, will become official on June 1

Samuel Enife - 12:59 AM
The ZTE Nubia Z17 has been hitting the leaks quite a bit in recent times but it may all be close to over. An alleged invitation has been leaked pointing to a 1 of June reveal with emphasis on artificial intelligence. That last bit comes from the fact that the ai in NubiaImagination is highlighted in red.
In a related story a bunch of press renders have also made the rounds on the web showing what could be ZTE Nubia Z17 from all sides.
The phone comes in a shiny Blue paintjob. The phone looks to have a glass back and front with a metal frame in between.
The ZTE Nubia Z17 is expected to have a 5.5" 1080p display with small side bezels. There should be a Snapdragon 835 chip inside along with either 6GB or even 8GB of RAM.
The cameras are rumored to be a 23MP main and 12MP dual camera on the back and a 16MP selfie snapper.
The battery is quoted to be a tiny-for-the-screen-size 3,100mAh unit.
What's most interesting is the IP67 rating for water resistance. A recent leak showed the ZTE Nubia Z17 operate submerged in water just fine. This makes the Z17 the first IP69 water resistant smartphone to come out of China.
